Hon. Farouk Kibet, Patron of the Chepsaita Cross Country race, has announced.
During a media briefing held at Chepsaita to discuss the race preparations, Hon. Kibet revealed that over 1,000 students from various schools will benefit from the scholarships. "I am pleased to announce that more than 1,000 students from 10 different schools will each receive a Ksh. 10,000 scholarship, directly paid to their schools. This Ksh. 10 million initiative aims to empower students and help them achieve their dreams through education," said Hon. Kibet.
The Chepsaita Cross Country race, recognized as a talent breeding ground, has attracted numerous young athletes who will compete in different categories.
Barnaba Korir, the Youth Development Director of Athletics Kenya and CEO of the race, expressed his excitement about the race’s continued growth. "I am proud to acknowledge the increasing significance of the Chepsaita Cross Country, which has firmly established itself as a breeding ground for talent, blending athletics and education seamlessly," Korir said.
Korir also emphasized the event's alignment with Athletics Kenya's mission to nurture and develop talent. "By creating an environment where young athletes can excel both academically and athletically, we are providing them with the tools to pursue successful careers in sports while ensuring their academic growth. This holistic approach is essential for shaping well-rounded individuals," he added.
The Chepsaita Cross Country race is a World Athletics Cross Country Tour Gold event and has attracted athletes from more than 15 countries, including Bahrain, Brunei, Burundi, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kazakhstan, Netherlands, Qatar, Russia, South Africa, Sudan, Somalia, Tanzania, Uganda, and the USA.
With the theme "Run for Education," the race underscores the vital role of integrating education and sports to foster the development of future generations.

The camp, which currently hosts more than 50 athletes,
reflects the strong determination of local parents, who contribute maize,
beans, and sorghum to support a feeding program for the camp’s participants.
Concerned about the future of athletics in their community,
these parents have decided to take matters into their own hands, ensuring that
their children have the opportunity to pursue their dreams in athletics.

Despite their commitment, the young athletes face numerous
challenges that threaten to derail their potential. However, the efforts of the
parents to create a supportive environment show their belief in the importance
of athletics in shaping their children's future.

"This camp not only demonstrates the parents' dedication to sports but
also serves as an example for other institutions to follow in nurturing
athletic talent. We will make every effort to ensure that such centers continue
to thrive," Korir said.
“Athletics Kenya remains committed to talent development, as
demonstrated by our support for various talent training camps across the
country. These initiatives have been instrumental in Kenya's remarkable
performance in youth athletics on the global stage, nurturing young talents
from an early age. “Korir said.

indication of the bright future of athletics in Kenya.”
Korir reiterated that AK will explore ways to provide
support to the camp and similar initiatives, aligning with our federation's
focus on mentoring young talent and ensuring a continuous pipeline of future
champions.

Athletics Kenya has reaffirmed its commitment to nurturing youth sports development across the country.
According to Mr. Barnabas Korir, Director of AK Youth Development, the department has been collaborating with various athletic camps nationwide to ensure that Kenya continues to produce world-class talent through grassroots initiatives.
Speaking at the Lemotit Athletics Camp in Kericho County over the weekend, during an event celebrating athletes from the camp who represented Kenya at the World U20 Championships in Lima and the ISF World Cross Country Championships, Mr. Korir emphasized the importance of this partnership. The Lemotit camp, located in Londiani, Kericho County, is one of the camps in the South Rift region supported by Athletics Kenya, under the leadership of coach Paul Kemei, whose efforts have been vital to the camp's success.
Mr. Korir encouraged the young athletes to remain dedicated to both their education and training, stressing the importance of balancing academic pursuits with athletic aspirations. He also urged them to uphold the values of clean sport, emphasizing the significance of integrity and responsibility in their athletic careers.
Athletics Kenya has long been banking on these athletic camps, which have consistently produced world-beating stars. Camps like Lemotit have nurtured some of the country’s most promising athletes, many of whom have gone on to achieve international success.
"By focusing on grassroots development and providing structured training environments, Kenya has continued to dominate the global stage, particularly in long-distance and middle-distance running events. These camps remain a cornerstone of the country's athletic success, ensuring a steady pipeline of talent that upholds Kenya's legacy in world athletics." Korir said.
Mr. Korir highlighted the critical role of developing young talent in shaping the future of sports. He noted that investing in youth not only ensures continuity of athletic excellence but also provides young athletes with opportunities to transform their lives through sports.
"The future of Kenyan athletics lies in the hands of the young athletes we nurture today," Korir said, emphasizing that creating a strong foundation for them is essential for the country's long-term success in the global sporting arena.
Athletics Kenya (AK) president Lt. Gen (Rtd) Jack Tuwei has been nominated for the BBC Green Sports Awards in the Regional Leader- Africa category.
Lt Gen (Rtd) Tuwei has been recognised for his passion and stewardship of the Sports and Sustainability agenda in Kenya, extending the crusade to a continental and global level.
“Jackson Tuwei has been an excellent steward of Sports and Sustainability agenda in Kenya, Africa and the World. We note that this is an agenda he also now pursues at the Global level beyond the sport of Athletics,” the nominations committee said on its website.

The second edition of the Chepsaita Great Cross Country is scheduled for December 7 at Chepkemel Secondary School in Turbo, Uasin Gishu County.
Speaking during its launch in the past weekend, the event’s patron Farouk Kibet, said the event will not only benefit competitors but also needy children in the local community.
“Our theme for this year is Run and Educate because this event offers young athletes the chance to expose their talents while also giving them an opportunity to better their education through scholarships,” Kibet said.
Proceeds from the competition will go towards the refurbishment of the nearby Chepsaita Secondary School.
