Sheila Chepkosgei Tarus and Ezron Kimurgor clinched the U12 titles at the ISF World Schools Cross Country Championships hosted at Ngong Racecourse, Nairobi, on Sunday.
Tarus, a Grade six student at Tiloa Primary School, spearheaded a Kenyan sweep in the 1200m race, finishing in 3:55.2 and securing the top spot. She outpaced Belinda Chepkorir, who took second place with a time of 3:55.1, followed by Dorcas Chelangat Kemei in third with a time of 3:57.1.
Despite initially placing fourth during the trials, Tarus persevered and used it as motivation to intensify her training. Reflecting on her victory, she mentioned, “I had trained rigorously leading up to today’s event, and my goal was to claim victory. I’m ecstatic about these results.”

In the boys’ category, Kimurgor, a grade 6 student from Kabiyet Township Primary School, dominated the race with a time of 3:43.5, securing the championship title. He was followed by Benjamin Shikuku in second place with a time of 3:46.7, and Ugandan Caleb Kibet Chasinja took the third spot with a time of 3:48.8.
